The Gambia Tourism and Hospitality Institute (GTHI) is currently conducting a comprehensive 10-day training program in Agri-Food Processing and Packaging for 100 youths in the Greater Banjul Area (GBA). This initiative, generously funded by the Ecowas regional and stabilization fund and executed by GIZ Gambia, aims to empower youths, particularly women and migrants, with specialized skills in the field of Agri-Food Processing and Packaging.

Building upon previous successful training sessions involving 60 youths in the Upper River region and 40 youths in the Lower River region, this program focuses on the horticulture value chain within Agri-Food Processing and Packaging. The training modules cover cereals and grains, fruits and vegetables, as well as milk and milk products, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of various sectors within the industry.

Prior to the regional training sessions, key personnel from GTHI underwent rigorous training and received essential equipment from the esteemed Agro Alimentaire Institute in Dakar, Senegal. This preparatory step ensured that the trainers were well-equipped to impart relevant knowledge and skills to the participants.

The cohort of participants comprises both established Agripreneurs in The Gambia and recent graduates, all of whom are benefiting from the rich experience and expertise offered during the training. Commencing on the 9th of October, this intensive program will conclude on the 20th of October 2021.

In a show of support and encouragement, Mr. Samboujang Touray, the GiZ Business Advisory representative, recently visited the beneficiaries. He conveyed his utmost satisfaction with the turnout, as well as the commitment and dedication demonstrated by the participants. During his visit, Mr. Touray offered an insightful overview of the project and welcomed questions and comments from the beneficiaries, fostering an interactive and collaborative environment.
