GTHI Launches Agri-Food Processing Training in URR and LRR

In a bid to combat food wastage and empower Gambian youth, the Gambia Tourism and Hospitality Institute (GTHI) kicked off its Agri-Food Processing and Packaging Training today, September 11, 2023. This training, simultaneously held in the Upper River Region (URR) and the Lower River Region (LRR), will last for 10 days and targets 60 youth in URR and 40 youth in LRR, aged between 16 and 35 years old.

During the opening ceremony, participants were enlightened about the pressing issue of food wastage in The Gambia and the critical role Agri-Food processing and packaging plays in addressing this challenge. The program, supported by the German International Cooperation (GIZ) through the ECOWAS Fund for Regional Stabilization Development (FRSD), aims to equip youth with skills in processing cereals and grains, fruits and vegetables, as well as milk and creamers.

The enthusiasm and determination of the participants are tangible, underscoring their commitment to contributing positively to their communities. This initiative holds the promise of a brighter and more sustainable future for The Gambia, where youth are empowered to reduce food wastage and enhance food safety practices. Stay tuned for updates as these young trainees embark on this transformative journey.
